Petrol....Sorry Unavailable

No one is unaware of the current issues going on in Pakistan these days. Every second day, the people of Pakistan have to worry for another problem. The tensions, stress, anxieties, frustrations etc. have made a common man living in Pakistan senseless. Now-a-days petrol is not available in the province of Punjab. And no one in the government is taking the responsibility to accept their fault. Because they really don’t care, they know that they will get petrol, for all of their cars in their protocol in any case. One, who will not be able to get it, is only a person living in Pakistan. He is the one who is going to suffer, not the government officials.

It has been about 10 days now that the citizens of Punjab, mostly, are not getting fuel for their automobiles and motorbikes. They are not able to go to their jobs and work, send their children to schools, colleges and universities, fulfill their responsibilities for a household. And if one thinks of any sort of public transport then, it’s unavailable as well. While, if they are, then the rates are too high that a simple worker can’t afford them. The taxi, rikshaw drivers have increased the rates to almost a double, and if someone is willing to pay, but knows that they are asking for such high rates, complains, they say, you know there is so much problem of fuel these days, the complainer has nothing to say, as he, himself is a victim.

The officials of Pakistan State Oil say that not a single oil delivery has arrived in the country ports for the previous two weeks. On the other hand, every fortnight, a number of almost 6 to 8 ships with fuel of 65,000 tons arrive at the country ports. A PSO officer reported that, “the company has exhausted all its overdraft facilities in the past few weeks. All its LCs (letters of credit) lines have been choked as its total receivables now run over Rs. 215 billion. The power sector owed Rs. 190 billion and PIA Rs. 12.5 billion.”

Last Thursday, government paid Rs. 17 billion but it did not solve the problem. The amount went to the overdue drafts and so fresh imports of oil could not be made. No one is now supporting PSO with their product and no trusts are being laid on them by the exporters or the banks.

It is not just petrol that has formed lines of vehicles on the petrol pumps but also the CNG stations.

When the petrol shortage reached its limits, government announced that CNG will now be available for the cars. But still all in vain. A student reported, “I am unable to go to my university due to petrol unavailability for three days.” A father said, “I have to drop my children to school before I go to work, but now I have to wait for two to three hours in a queue to get petrol first a night before and then I am able to send them to school and go to my work, the next day.”

The problem here is that the citizens of this country are fed up. The so called slogans of each party, like “Roti, kapra aur makaan”, “Roshan Pakistan” and “Naya Pakistan” have given nothing but pain and suffering to the citizens. It’s now the need of hour to move towards the practical steps instead of satisfying the citizens with such lame slogans. The government has to take serious steps towards this issue and resolve it now and then. The people now don’t have the capacity to wander here and there for petrol just like electricity, Sui gas, water, shelter, food etc.

Role of Pakistani Media

Pakistan is a country which is facing problems not just before its formation but also during, after and till date. Terrorism, Kashmir issue, low tax collection, tax evasion, religious intolerance, corruption, devalued currency, unemployment, lack of education, water shortage, provincial disharmony, inadequate foreign policy, corrupt police, energy crisis, ethnic hatred etc. are the major problems. On the other hand, land grapping mafia, illegal weapons, rising divorce rate, drug abuse in teenagers, pollution, population explosion, high infant mortality rate, lack of clean drinking water, women abuse, rising Western and Indian culture, capital flight, medical problems, impure food products etc. are also the important problems.

These problems are developing at a higher rate than Pakistan is developing. If these are not paid prior attention they will engulf Pakistan, in fact they have already caused a major problem to Pakistan and its inhabitants. It is due to the inconsideration of the people and government officials of Pakistan. People of Pakistan and the officials do not value this country much; they just care about themselves, their desires and their priorities. The corrupt politicians are not corrupt as a person, we as a nation are corrupt; whoever finds an easy way towards his success; does corruption on his level. Corrupt people then vote for corrupt politicians and then they do their part of corruption; which takes Pakistan back and its progress and development falls behind.

Keeping in view all of these issues, the role of media is very important. But here too, the problem lies that Pakistani media is not playing fair. The media should not be in the influence of government or any political party of the state. Unfortunately, our media is doing so; it is under the orders of government and other political parties. On the other hand, they break the news by adding fuel to the fire. In reality one thing has happened, while they tell the other one. They exaggerate the details, especially if going against Pakistan. They portray Pakistan as if there is no security, no education, none of the industries, unemployment; in sort, no reason to live in Pakistan. There are problems in this country, but it is not so that one cannot survive here. Let’s just focus first on the role of media and then on the positive aspects of Pakistan.

Firstly, when a security issue occurs, the media not only gives out the details of the attack but also they criticize the government if they are being supported by an opposition party, while those who support the government, criticize other political parties, and this process goes on. Then they exaggerate the issue, they add spices to it, and finally, the issue takes the form of something else. The media should just break those details which are authentic. It should be neutral, instead of taking sides of any of their supporting parties. They should drive the concerns of the government to pay attention to such issues. They should support government if it is taking any positive step, instead of finding meaningless flaws in it.

Secondly, whenever any natural disaster occurs, the media instead of paying sympathies to the one who suffered, or helping them out in one or the other way, criticize the government and hide the details. The earthquake of 2008, took away the lives of 215 people, with 200 injured and about 120,000 homeless. The media gave these details but the hid the ones related to human trafficking, which took place on a large scale in Kashmir region. Young girls were kidnapped, and smuggled to foreign countries. The innocent, beautiful girls of Kashmir were made to go the foreign countries and be a source of their pleasure. At this moment, the media should have paid stress to this issue and stopped the human trafficking of the Pakistani girls.

Thirdly, when during the monsoon months, the rainfall exceeds the limits, flood hits Pakistan. At this moment Pakistan, having no dams for excess water storage, faces great disaster in unprivileged areas. The fields are destroyed, homes flooded out with water and its inhabitants and a large area with its population is affected. Pakistan not only faces problem due to the excess rainfall, but India also plays its role in its destruction. As both the neighbors share the same climate, India also has monsoon in those days. After filling its dams, it turns the excess rain water towards Pakistan. The Sindh Taas agreement between the two countries has borne no fruit till date. These have also led to major problems in Pakistan. Media should drive the attention of the government officials and related political parties to pay stress to this issue and resolve it. Instead of giving and breaking lame news, the media should focus on the major problems, and give such issues prior importance, not only in flood days but also after it.

Fourthly, the entertainment channels of Pakistan are also portraying a negative image of this homeland to other countries. The culture, first of all, which is being promoted in our channels, is neither Islamic nor Pakistani. The vulgarity, shameless scenes, brutality, intolerance, misbehavior with parents, drug and smoking which are being promoted in the dramas are not according to our teachings. The women who wear shameless clothes, actors who are seen drinking and smoking, are a cause of the rapes and increased drug induction by the teenagers. The entertainment channels should only promote those things which are according to our teachings and culture.

Fifthly, the media is not promoting the Pakistani singers. Although, above it has been discussed that Pakistani channels should only promote its culture, but still it is also a fact that people like to listen to songs. But if they are Pakistani, instead of Indian or Western, then a huge difference will be seen. In this way, our singers will also have recognition of themselves; they will not need to go to other countries and beg for employment. The people of Pakistan will also have a view of their legends.

Last but not the least; the media should now take action for the formation of dams by the government now and then. Media should pay stress and prior importance to this issue. Media should join hands with the people of Pakistan to drive the attention of the government and officials to build up a new world, where energy and clean water crisis will no longer be a problem.

These are just a few issues which have been highlighted, but the truth is that they are just a few; there are more than one can just imagine. The media and inhabitants of Pakistan now should work together and fight for their rights, irrespective of their own benefits, considering the benefits of this country as more important.

Fire Alert

If it is said that the last week of the month December was a fire week, it cannot be wrong. First the fire in Karachi, on the 27^th December, 2014 put one of the biggest timber markets in Pakistan’s city Karachi, at stake. On the Saturday night, a fire erupted which took away all the building with it. The market is located in the Karachi’s Old Haji Camp.

It was just a normal day when this devastating event took place, shortly after midnight. Fire fighters were called soon after the fire broke out, but it took time for them to come. It not only affected the market but also the adjacent houses and other dozens of buildings. The fire was of category three and spread to the “Soomro Gali” and other nearby shops. The dense population around the affected area was evacuated by the emergency calls from the local mosque. Six fire fighters were performing their duties to control the fire. As it had spread to a large area it took about ten to eleven hours to have control over it. It was reported that some people are trapped in the building. The cause and reason of the fire erupt is still unconfirmed.

Fire fighters also reported a few problems which they faced while extinguishing the fire. The most important one was the narrow lanes and closeness of the nearby buildings.

The area has different small commercial storehouses for timber, which is used by the furniture manufacturing industries. The whole area was destroyed with the shops.

Just a day after this devastating event, another massive fire broke out in the commercial plaza of Anarkali, Lahore, killing 13 people and destroying several shops. An electrical short circuit was the cause of the fire in the Al Khalid Plaza’s fourth storey, which caused the Al Kareem Market to catch fire. In this Market the electronic items are manufactured and sold. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire erupted at 5:32pm and just in 10 minutes it took over all the building with it.

13 people along with a woman and a child were killed out of which 12 of them died due to suffocation. Seven of the dead have been identified so far but the other ones with the woman and the child could not be identified. The fire spread in just a few moments and many of the shopkeepers and customers were trapped in the building. DCO Captain (retired) Muhammad Usman also blamed the electrical short circuit for this conflagration. The Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Jam Sajjad Hussain, reported that 16 fire engines and 80 fire fighters were sent to the market for rescue of the people.

The problem faced was the same as of the Karachi fire fighters that the roads and streets were very narrow which made the rescue process very difficult.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the district government to submit a report on the following incident within 24 hours. But none of the government officials or representatives went to condole for the incident. Financial compensation was also announced for the dead and the injured.

A high level team was also formed for the ensuring of the monetary compensation of the victims. The Anarkali Traders Union announced the market will be closed to mourn for the loss on Tuesday.

The problem here is that the fire can explode in any place but why it that the reason behind it is so uncertain. The electrical wires should be checked and seen if there is any problem. There should be fire extinguishers at every spot in the buildings and it should also be checked if there is gas in them. Security checks and fire checks should be performed regularly. On the other hand, there should be emergency exit points in plaza’s and markets. The narrow areas and roads should be reconstructed so that they can be made wider as well as the places where there is no such possibility there the facilities should be provided to the fire fighters. The fire fighters should be facilitated so that they have enough water supplies and have their engines in all places so that they can reach in time. The government should help out the people who lost their shops in such devastating incidents. They just have small shops from which they earn a living for their children and families. They are tax payers, they are not any defaulters, they don’t live like ministers, and they do not belong to higher upper class. They voted for you, they stood up for you, now it’s your time to give them something in return. Their demands are not too high. They just want a halaal income for themselves.

Wake up Pakistan!!

It was just a calm and peaceful day in Peshawar on the 16^th of December, 2014, when the calamity came with the brutal martyrdom of 145 people including 132 children and other staff members along with the Principal of Army Public School Peshawar, Pakistan. The children were mostly of the ages between eight and eighteen. The number of those who were injured was about 130 as reported by Chief military spokesman Major General Asim Bajwa. A rescue operation was also launched as a response to this attack by the Pakistan Army Special Services Group (SSG). All the 7 attacking members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed in the rescue operation.

It was one of the most horrible and deadliest attacks by the terrorists in the history of Pakistan targeting innocent school children. It has been reported by different news channels and commentators that it resembled to the attack on Beslan school hostage crisis which took place in the north Ossetia, the Alania region in Russia, in the year 2004.

The tragedy occurred as 7 TTP members broke in the school at about 10:00 am, from a cemetery behind the school, in a Suzuki Bolan ST41 van. They set it on fire while entering the school. They were dressed up in the uniforms of the Pakistani Frontier Corps. Just after entering the school boundaries the terrorists moved straight toward the auditorium which is just in the center of school. A function was being held there and a number of students as well as staff members had gathered there. After entering the auditorium they opened fire on the children as they tried to escape from the exits. But they were killed just right after as they all gathered towards the exist points.

The principal, Mrs. Tahira Kazi and some other teachers were burnt alive before the children and there are reports that they were forced to watch them suffering. Just after about 10-15 minutes the SSG teams arrived at the spot and they entered the school with armored vehicles. They made the terrorists to remain bound in the school premises and this prevented them from the brutal killing of other survivors. The terrorists in order to save their lives ran towards the administration block. One was killed during this rush while the other made it to the block. But soon the 4 of them were also killed by the snipers from the windows and air vents and there are reports that 2 of them blew themselves with the suicide jackets. The police of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa with the Army Corps sealed all the adjacent areas of the school near the Warsak Road, Peshawar. The hostages were also rescued and two officers were also injured taken to safe places afterwards. Seven commandos with the two officers were injured during this rescue operation. Approximately 1100 students and staff members were in the school and about 960 were successfully rescued with others as injured.

After all this the area was sealed and a search operation was conducted in order to search for any kind of planted IEDs or the suicide vests. There are also reports that the attackers were in constant contact with their handlers and the intelligences agencies and the security forces. Major General Asim Bajwa reported, “We know who they are and who they were in contact with but details cannot be shared due to operation reasons. They were aware of locations and they must have carried out the recon of the area. And it is highly possible that someone from inside might have tipped them off.”

This attack was a response of the operation started by the Armed Forces of Pakistan in the month of June 2014 against the groups in North Waziristan. The Zarb-e-Azb operation was launched on the 8^th of June after the attack on the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. Till now according to reports 2100 have been killed and 90 % of the area has been cleared. TTP attack on the school was to kill a maximum number of children whose fathers belonged to Army. The Taliban reported, “More than 50 sons of important army officers were killed after being identified.” Most of them were shot straight in their heads.

The whole nation united after this brutal attack and the Army chief, General Raheel Sharif was in rage after this. Although no Army parents were seen repenting on their children but their grief cannot be consoled. One of them reported, “We have also lost our children but we cannot cry like others because we are Army officers.”

The operation was given fire after this and the killing of the deadly terrorists was increased. The orders to hang the terrorists were given by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Nawaz Sharif. The numbers of terrorists who have been sentenced to death are more than 7000 all over the jails of Pakistan. The hanging process has been started and the country is still in threats from the TTP specially the educational institutions.

Whatever is the situation of Pakistan these days is due to the people of Pakistan. The day when the bomb blasts and attacks started they should have been stopped then and there. At first it was demanded the government just after the attack to punish the attackers but this was soon forgotten. If the demand was kept in position and the Government was made to take these acts as a serious matter then this would never had happen in the first place. Now the situation is that all the educational institutions have been closed for about a month due to security reasons. The government is saying that about 30,000 men are being training for the security of the schools and colleges but this is not enough. The point is that what can they do in case if a suicide bomber comes around?? The number of educational institutions all over Pakistan is more than this. Secondly, what do we expect from the Army, the Rangers, SSG and other security forces; they are protecting us from the external forces, the internal forces. The Army officers sacrifice their lives, their sleep, their families, their peace just only for the peace and well-being of this country.

This all has to stop now. We have to stop this. We cannot let our brothers and sisters to die just like this. We have to stand up for our rights now. It’s the need of hour now to fight not for ourselves but also for this country. This is our prime duty to report anything which we see around us, suspected. On the other hand we should get ourselves and our future generations to get educated and fight them with the help of our pen, because it is the only most beneficial arm of ours against them.

Why only GEO??

Last days there were a large number of scandals on the media concerning Geo. First the attack on Senior anchor person of Geo news, Hamid Mir, on April 19, 2014 by four unidentified men when he was in Karachi. The next scandal arose when Dr. Shaista Wahidi the host of "Jago Pakistan Jago”, a morning show, was celebrating the marriage ceremony of Veena Malik and her husband Asad Bashir. It was such a blasphemy that the Muslims all over the world were in despair. Another drama was being on aired on Geo entertainment, named as "Rukhsaar". Another controversy arose in which the mother was asking her daughter to take divorce from her husband and marry the other rich man. And both of them were not in the favor of the teachings of Islam regarding "Iddat". And last but not the least, the channel Geo Kahani has been airing Turkish dubbed dramas for long. One of these is "Mera Sultan". In the drama the incident of Hazrat Moosa (A.S.) and Hazrat Khizar (A.S.) regarding patience is related and is considered equal to the incident of Sheikh Saadi and Hafiz Sherazi. The Book of Allah in the Surah Kahaf, Allah himself has told about the incident. And no one either Muslim or non-Muslim can deny it.

Here a question arises what is the reason for all this description??? Actually what I feel is that why it is only that only one channel or a media group is banned?? When all the channels are scandalizing the politicians and army all over the world at that time where do the people of Pakistan go?? It is not about one single person or leader. It is about every person who is blamed for no reason every minute on the news channel. Each and every day we have a new issue to talk about. The programs on each and every channel have a different issue to discuss. But no conclusion or benefit is derived from it. In fact the representatives of different parties keep on blaming and fighting with each other. And the people are free to sit for hours and listen their lame talk.

Every day in the morning shows vulgarity and ill mannered behaviors are promoted. A morning should be pleasant instead of filled with songs, dances, unnecessary content, hustle and bustle etc. People want peace and calmness in their lives not such things. They want to share their problems and want others whom they trust they solve their problems. But all that they need does not require such environment.

The Qawali which was played on Geo TV was previously played on Ary News as well as Samaa channel in their respective morning shows. But all these went unconsidered because when such act was committed on Geo, Geo was going through tough days. I am not a supporter of Geo neither I want Geo to be banned or work as usual. I just want that all such acts should be considered illegal.

Smoking, drinking, adult content, crime, and other crimes are shown everyday on every channel in their dramas and programs. These are also not the teachings of Islam. Whatever is happening these days is the result of these acts. All these channels and news groups should be given a last warning, and should be asked not to commit anything like that again and if anything happened then they will be banned and given notice either of suspension or a court notice.

As a conclusion, whatever happened cannot be forgotten or forgiven other channels should take message from all these acts and they should not think of doing any such things or taking these general.
